Bluebird babies

These photos are from 2010. A former graduate student from William and Mary bands bluebirds that the Master Naturalists were monitoring in New Quarter Park. Bluebirds are again starting to build nests in boxes at New Quarter Park and other places around the area. Eggs have been seen at Fords Colony. Babies will be arriving shortly!

Although it may look frightening, the banding does not hurt the babies, and it helps scientists track the birds. Knowing more about the birds’ habits and whereabouts will help them in the long run.
