"The Mastodon Dig"

Images from Dr. Jerre Johnson's mastodon dig. Many helpers on the dig are from the Historic Rivers Chapter of the Virginia Master Naturalists. Everyone seemed to enjoy playing in the mud and most especially uncovering a bone that was around 11 thousand years old. Members can view a short film done for participants of the dig in the member area by clicking here.

Work on cleaning preserving and fitting together the bones continues. Read more about the dig in the Washington Post.

Photos and videos from folks working on the Mastodon Dig were pieced together to create a 14 minute video by Seig and Alice Kopinitz.
