The Virginia Master Naturalist program is a statewide corps of trained volunteers providing education, science, and stewardship to benefit natural resource conservation in their communities. The Historic Rivers Chapter was very busy in 2025 supporting this mission! By the numbers: 172 volunteers contributing 22,376 service hours valued at $770,182; 28 sites stewarded; 28 scientific, monitoring, and inventory studies supported; 5,103 contacts made through education and outreach; 50 partnerships with local organizations. Project Highlight: Historic Rivers Master Naturalist volunteers filled 50 wildlife viewing backpacks that were distributed at local schools, parks, and libraries to expand community access to free nature exploration activities.
